Testing out Revolution’s New Glitter Eyeshadows

Revolution has recently release a slew of new glitter eye products. I’ve been really eager to try all of them out, however there are far too many to try all in one post, so I picked up the three new pressed glitter pallets and one of the glitter paste pots, as well as the glitter glue primer which is recommended for use with all their glitter eye products.

The pressed glitter pallets are so pretty. There are three different pallets to choose from: Midas Touch, a gold and bronze themed pallet with both warm and cool tones; Abracadabra, with rainbow brights and holographic colours; and Hot Pursuit, which is a more warm-toned pallet with pinks, reds and oranges. The pallets are £10 each from Superdrug, who currently have a ‘3 for 2’ offer on all cosmetics, meaning I got all three pallets for £20 and when you purchase three products you receive a free The Gypsy Shrine face jewel pack!

As I also wanted to purchase the glitter glue primer as well as something else from Superdrug, I took advantage of their offers and grabbed a glitter paste pot in the shade Power Hungry as my free product. Both products retail for £4 each.

All twenty-seven pressed glitter shades are beautiful. Although the back of the pallets recommends you use a primer without specifically naming their own, I think you definitely need the Glitter Glue to make these products work: I tried them with my Urban Decay Primer Potion, which is my absolute favourite eyeshadow primer, and they just didn’t stick. Something to bare in mind is that these are not eyeshadows, they’re pressed glitter, meaning they work completely different to eyeshadow, and the Glitter Glue has been specifically designed to work for them. I tested a few different brushes and found a fluffy flat or angled brush was the best for picking up the product and packing it on the eyelid. I’d use a larger one for the main part of your eyelid and a smaller one for the inner and outer corners of your eyes as you need precision to avoid too much fallout.

The glitter paste is exactly what it says on the pot. It’s a thick clear paste full of glitter specs. It’s a wet consistency so you have to be careful when applying as the product can move around quite a bit. I’d suggest keeping you eye closed for a minute or two after applying until the product is dry. I used a rounder flat brush to apply the product in a dome shape. If you wanted to create a flick with the paste you could use a liner brush to do so and treat it similar to liquid eyeliner.

Here’s a few looks I tried with the products.

I think all the products are gorgeous. I don’t use glitter products, all that much, especially not pressed glitter, so it will take me a little while to get used to using them. I think the brighter shades will be great for summer parties and festivals and I’ll be able to use the warmer tones as we get later in the year. The only downside I see is that these products are extremely messy; I got glitter everywhere when testing these out. They were also quite difficult to get off – which is a good thing, if you think about it – and I would suggest using a cream or liquid eye makeup remover on a cotton pad, rather than using a face wipe.

I loved the Revolution glitter products that I tried, and I can’t wait to try some of the others!

Revolution have also just released four new Reload pallets which I’ll be getting my hands on very soon, so keep your eye on my blog for a review on them! To celebrate all these new releases, I’ll be doing a makeup giveaway for one lucky subscriber! Check out my ‘Revolution Makeup Giveaway’ post which is up on the blog now to see how you can enter!
